This is based on an amazing fanfiction I read, Remembrance by Nagasha. The way she fleshed out all the Sugar Rush racers was a pleasure to read. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve re-read this story, it’s that awesome.

I have more coming that are based directly on what she wrote, but this drawing is based on a scene I wrote in my series of drabbles, inspired by Nagasha’s story.

Hi all! Finally got up the courage to share this.

I made a Vanellope doll! Her merchandise always sold really quickly and I was one of the unlucky many who didn’t get one of her, so I thought I’d make my own.

I was inspired by Cory Jenson, who makes amazing paper dolls. He made the Mulan and Rapunzel in the pictures above. You can see his stuff here:

Also on his Facebook page is a tutorial on how to make the stand so that the doll stands up.

I had a little trouble getting her hair to fit on. I actually had to cut into the base in order to slip the tab in above her ear, but I actually found that helps the hair stay in place, so I’d actually advise you do the same thing.

I was watching the Nostalgia Critic’s editorial on princesses in the media. I really like where he’s going with the new episodes; the snark is still there, but it’s nice that he’s also finding good things to say about what he reviews and moments where he can really be sincere. He brought up a lot of great points in the princess editorial, things that I didn’t even think of but totally made sense. I like that he gave special attention to so many of the Disney princesses and even mentioned Wreck-It Ralph. However, it did bother me that he didn’t talk about how WIR played with and even broke the princess stereotype.

I completely justify Vanellope being a princess and not a queen for three reasons:

1) Sugar Rush is a world within a world, a video game in our modern times. Given how popular princesses are in the media it does make sense that the programmers of the game would have made her one.

2) Not only that, but Sugar Rush is a world made entirely of children. King Candy was never supposed to be a part of it: Word of God says that he was never a playable character, and Turbo made up the persona to give himself something to hide behind in the candy-coated world. It’s one of the big tip-offs that King Candy doesn’t belong. Vanellope is just a little kid. True, because she doesn’t have parents she should be the queen, but it feels more natural to call a young child princess or even prince instead of king or queen.

3) Last and most important, Vanellope almost immediately rejects the princess title in favor of naming herself president – not even queen, president. It’s a title that’s much less glamorous and carries a much greater sense of responsibility. This is the same girl who was neglected and abused for fifteen years, and when she’s restored to power she doesn’t hold it over anyone’s head. She abolishes the throne in favor of a constitutional democracy where everyone is treated equally. I remember even when WIR first came out fans where praising the film because of this – in what other Disney movie do we see a young girl willingly give up the princess title? This was a huge step forward for Disney and I wish NC would have addressed it.

I still love his show, though.

This sweet girl was dropped off at my Dad’s work today, she is about 9months old based on her teeth and development. She will probably be a 35-40lb dog when fully grown and nourished. She has been very clearly abused, she’s covered in cuts and scrapes and a case of mange that needs to be treated. We cannot take her on, we have two dogs her size already and this house just can’t support her. She is a sweet dog who responds well to attention and just wants a little bit of love. If you or anyone you know is willing to help out this sweet girl in the Wichita, Kansas area, please contact me immediately so we can get her somewhere safe.
